Funds for Community Projects

Saltwater Connections has funding for small community projects that support and facilitate job creation and retention, supplemental income generation, or small business development, including commercial fishing and eco-/heritage tourism industries. Saltwater Connections is looking for projects that build on natural and cultural resources and help meet community-identified needs.

Community organizations, including non-profits, civic associations, school groups, church groups, and others, are eligible to apply for funds to help implement projects. Guidelines are posted on this website under the Resource Teams tab. Organizations are encouraged to review the Resource Team preliminary reports for Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, and Avon, and for Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras, also posted under the Resource Teams tab.  Preliminary reports for Ocracoke and Down East should be completed and posted next month.

The Saltwater Connections resource team will be back on Hatteras Island in early March for a public workshop to talk about community projects. The date and location still need to be confirmed, but will be posted on this website asap. The workshop will be an opportunity to get informal feedback from team members on ideas. One key point to keep in mind as you think about projects are that proposals should show strong community support. Proposal guidelines are posted under the Resource Teams tab on this site. Thanks!

  2. Please tell me about small business development and support for job creation.
