Best blue water multihulls: Privilège 510 Signature

The Privilège 510 Signature is a serious luxury multihull, perfect for long-distance cruises. Toby Hodges and François Tregouet discover why

Privilège was created 35 years ago by Philippe Jeantot, founder of the Vendée Globe. With its site in Les Sables d’Olonne, it has become a leader in the luxury blue water market. The new Privilège 510 Signature is a fine example of the French brand’s blue multihull.

Privilège is now part of Hanse Yachts, and the 510 Signature is the first to be launched under its new owner, although it retains the lines of the formidable Marc Lombard multihull designs.

The Privilege range begins with this impressive 50 footer, which adapted the hulls and deck of the original 5 Series design.

Lombard has stretched out the coachroof, offering good protection for the bimini and enlarging the portholes, while storage and volume distribution have been improved. The 510 is designed to carry a significant amount of cruising gear – up to six tons in fact.

An 88 m² square mainsail, a mast tilted backwards and a bowsprit for the code and downwind sails give the 510 its performance.

Interior Privilege 510

The excellent helm station now has a fixed windshield and all lines are close at hand. The quality of finish including the electrical installation is first class and a Privilege brand, the admirable full width front cabin (26 feet) is sumptuous. Larger windows in the saloon, with thinner mullions, provide nearly 360-degree views from the living rooms.

The list of trim choices is also extensive, offering a high degree of customization, with two masters / two guests, one master / three guests and four crew cabin layout options.

Like many builders, Privilège currently benefits from a large order book and waiting times for new construction are long, even though it is considerably increasing its production to meet ever-growing demand.
