Countdown to the 2022 RORC Caribbean 600 >> Scuttlebutt Sailing News

With nearly 80 entrants racing under the IRC, MOCRA and Class40 division ranking rule, the 13th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 has attracted over 600 sailors from 30 different nations and will depart from Fort Charlotte, Antigua on February 21.

The 600nm race course circumnavigates 11 Caribbean islands, providing stunning Caribbean winter racing with fast angles, ocean swell and tropical temperatures.

“The RORC Caribbean 600 and Antigua is like coming home to family; we love the event and the people. After missing the 2021 event (due to the pandemic), we are absolutely thrilled to have so many amazing entries,” said Chris Stone, RORC Caribbean 600 Race Director.

The honors of the monohull line will probably be decided by three Maxi Yachts: the Club Swan 125 Skorpios, the Verdier/VPLP 100 Comanche and the Farr 100 Leopard. IRC Super Zero offers six versions of the Volvo Open 70 design, plus the 115ft Swan Shamanna and Mills 68 Prospector.

After a tight finish in the 2022 RORC transatlantic race, Maserati, PowerPlay and Argo lock the horns again for multihull line honors. Eleven multihulls are currently entered to race under the MOCRA rule and a host of proven winners will be in the hunt for MOCRA glory after the weather correction.

Ten Class40s answered the call from France, the USA and Italy. It is undoubtedly a difficult race for the Class40s; with little sleep or respite for crews due to the multitude of sail changes and harsh conditions.

The winner of the RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy is determined by IRC time correction. While contenders for line honors will be looking for the double, teams racing in IRC Zero and IRC One have an equal chance of winning the race after time correction.


The 2020 RORC Caribbean 600 attracted 76 teams from 21 countries and crews from six continents. When the 13th edition kicks off, the 600 nautical mile course circumnavigates 11 Caribbean islands from Fort Charlotte, English Harbour, Antigua and heads north to St Martin and south to Guadeloupe via Barbuda, Nevis, St Kitts, Saba and St Barth’s.
