Greek sports tourism and culinary events in October

Greece’s tourist season continues long after October with four international sports and culinary tourism events scheduled in the coming days.

Organized under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the events are the Navarino Challenge 2022, the 3rd Aegean Yachting Festival, the 12th Catamarans Cup and the Cretan Taste Awards 2022.

“We constantly support innovative outreach events, which promote and enrich the diversity of Greek tourism, strengthen the dynamics of individual destinations in our country and contribute to the expansion of the season beyond the summer period,” said the GNTO in a statement.

From October 21 to 23, the main award-winning sporting event will take place at Costa Navarino and Pylos in Messenia.

Now in its 10th year, the main objective of the event is to promote sport and fair play across more than 10 Olympic sports for a variety of age groups.

The program includes a number of cross-country races, tennis matches, disabled basketball, a beach volleyball tournament as well as cycling in Voidokoilia and Kalamari waterfall, kayaking in Sfakteria, swimming, rowing, gymnastics and much more.

More than 2,700 athletes of all ages from Greece and abroad are expected.

3rd Aegean Sailing Festival

Organized on the same dates as the Navarino Challenge 2022, the 3rd Aegean Sailing Festival will take place in the new marina of Rhodes.

More than 20 boat rental and support companies, boat manufacturers and premium global brands will participate, while more than 40 new boats will be showcased. According to the GNTO, the event is expected to draw some 10,000 people to the Dodecanese island.

This year the festival will collaborate with the boat show France’s Grand Pavois La Rochelle, which is the 5th largest exhibition of its kind in the world.

The 3rd Aegean Yachting Festival aims to promote the South Aegean islands and more particularly Rhodes, while highlighting the country’s maritime and yachting tourism potential.

12th Catamaran Cup

The event will take place from October 22 to 29 with a start and finish in Alimos Marina in Attica and stops at the destinations of Poros, Porto Heli, Astros beach and Nafplion.

The 12th Catamarans Cup is an international catamaran sailing race that combines the adrenaline of racing with a relaxing vacation on the The Greek Islandsespecially in this low tourist season.

This year, 30 boats with around 300 sailors from 18 countries will participate. At all ports of arrival, special award ceremonies will be held to honor the winners.

Cretan Taste Award 2022

The Cretan Taste Award 2022 will take place on October 25 at the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, Crete.

The prizes recognize the best restaurants in Cretan cuisinebusinesses offering authentic local products and initiatives that promote local culinary identity and tradition.

The Cretan Taste Awards are divided into six main sections while their judging committee is made up of eminent representatives from the academic community, catering companies and professional bodies on the island, top chefs and sommeliers from Greece and abroad, as well as respected journalists and food experts.
