Saudi Arabia’s new turtle-shaped ‘floating city’ is said to be the world’s largest boat

Shaped like a turtle, a terayach is set to become the largest floating structure in the world. Lazzarini, the designer of this terayatch, Pangeos estimated the cost of its construction at $8 billion (approximately ₹65,000 crore). The gigantic boat is named after Pangea, a supercontinent believed to have existed between 200 and 335 million years ago.

The makers plan to build it as a “floating city,” CNN reported. It should be 1,800 feet long and 2,000 feet wide. The gigantic boat will be able to accommodate 60,000 people at a time.

Of course, to build such a large structure, the designers would also need a special place. The designers proposed Saudi Arabia as the place of construction. About a square kilometer from the sea will have to be dug out and a circular dam constructed before the construction process can begin. The makers of the terayatch chose the King Abdullah port space as the ideal location. You can also take a look at the video posted by Lazzarini on their YouTube, showing what the terayatch will look like:

Social media users took to the comments section to express their curiosity about the terayatch. Many wondered how he would handle the waves. It certainly looked like an interesting design to them. One social media user wrote: “It would be interesting to see how this ship behaves in the middle of a big sea storm, although it won’t have the speed to get away.

“Projects like this are hard for me to even understand the time it takes, the materials to work with, and the money it takes,” read another comment.

A third user commented: “Doable concept and not necessarily much forward resistance if the whole structure in light materials is made to float on multihulls parallel to each other and cutting the direction of navigation. A sort of bunch of catamarans all tied together.

The term terayacht is designated for vessels that are larger than super, mega and giga yachts. Although it may not sound like the real world, the term does exist. And this terayacht will also serve as a floating city.
